Question5
How did you attract/address your audience?
Firstly, the biggest thing that stands out in our thriller is the cliffhanger at the end of the thriller which was of the pair of boots on the floor. This is a strong ending to the thriller because it will make the audience eager to find out what happens next. In other words, did the lady get raped? or murdered?. The actors in my thriller are pretty young and due to the fact that are main target audiences are quite young to, it makes it easier for them to relate to and also educate them a bit about the problems females are likely to face in this generation and the negative acts of black males in our society. Our location was based in a working class area so the environment was quite urban. Incidents such as the one in my thriller usually occur in the south of london and even though our film was in the east of london, it still looks similar and realistic.
Continuation of Question 4..
The audience for our film is simply the younger generations so this can be the under 30s. This is simply because analysing the feedbacks. (looking at some of the above) which i made in Wallwisher, the style of the comments gives a slight idea of the ages of each individual. some sound quite childish while other comments are mature. I believe our thriller is quite similar to the film thriller. our film might be a thriller but i strongly believe it fits in the urban genre well, with the story line of a black male kidnapping a girl. I believe our audience would want to watch our film because it is a story that relates to what happens in everyday life and so therefore our audiences can easily create to it. Although, there are no illustrations for it in my blog but however, me and my partner also carried out an interview in order to be able to identify our target audience. Most of our interviewees were teachers from school but their interests where the proper hitchcock type of thrillers but with our thrillers, we tried to make it more modern.Monday, 30 April 2012

Re- shoot footage
Today sir had a look at our video which was all finalized and edited but unfortunately, we was told that it wasn't up to standard and that we had to re film our thriller opening. So we are going to take out a camera and and shoot another thriller opening.
As our first thriller was not satisfactory and up to standard we had to re film in a short period of time and make the thriller better than how it was, by doing so we recruited new actors, the actors in this film included Bamidele Soetan, Sofiyat Kasim, and Stephanie De Asancao. This thriller is about a girl, Stephanie, waiting for her friend, Sofiyat, to go to party which they were already late for, Stephanie had enough of waiting and began to make her way however little did she know that she was being watched by a thug, Bamidele Soetan. The thug then goes to the other way of the alley was to make sure he bumps into her, as he bumps into her he decides to attack her and kidnap her whilst doing so, her friend sofia then turns up but hears a scream, she runs down the alley way only to see stephanie's shoes left but she had been kidnapped.

We got our Reply from MobyGratis after requesting for it
Both myself and my partner decided to look up some suitable music for our thriller opening and so therefore we managed to pick out two tunes from moby gratis and requested for them. It was quite difficult to pick out the music though because most of the songs sounded the same but because we haven't shot our video yet, we had to imagine what it would look like when its been filmed and what song would go with it. We had to consider the pace as well as the genre of the music

our first thriller experience
On the first filming of our thriller all the characters, props and location were ready and filming was ready. The characters in this thriller were Taoheed Bamidele and Stephanie De Asancao. Filming took place at an alley way near William Bellamy School and the idea of thriller was a boyfriend and girlfriend walking home from the park, the boyfriend played by Taoheed Bamidele dropped his girlfriend played by Stephanie De Asancao at the alley way near her house, she then starts walking home then all off a sudden she screams! Taoheed then goes running back to see if she is still there and only her shoes are left and she has been kidnapped. Unfortunately, this thriller was not up standard according to our teacher so we had to re film in a short period of time and do the thriller a lot better than how it was.

Our preliminary task
There was three people involved in my preliminary task which included; Frankie McFarlene, Michael matute and Myself. Before we was giving the permission to carry on with the filming, we had to complete a storyboard which outlined what was going to happen in the scene and the duties of each character.
Below is the copy of our storyboard which we had to do individually but however, we all had thesame plan.....

Preliminary Task
- In lesson, we was thought that the Preliminary task is a demonstration of continuity editing.
- We was also told that that the aim of this task is for us to be able to sow that we can successfully do the following......
Key Edits
Match-On- Action.... This is when we see a character start an action in one shot and then see them continue it in the next.
The 180 Degree Rule...... This is a basic guideline that states that two characters in thesame scene should always have thesame left and right relationship to each other.
- If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called Crossing the line.
This is the Brief plan for the task we are going to carry out with our group

This video basically explains and gives a demonstration of what a Shot reverse shot is.

This is the Brief plan for the task we are going to carry out with our group
- Character A walks towards a closed door
- Character A enters through the door and crosses a room to where character B is sitted
- Character A and B exchange a few lines or Dialogue
- Either characters A or B exits the room.

Health and Safety Risk Assessment
Before we went off to do our filming we had to agree on the following rules and conditions;
- No filming in inappropriate locations
- Check safety of locations
- Minimise risk of theft of equipment
- When filming on location ensure teacher or responsible adult know where you are and have telephone number and details of when you will return
- Check that all equipment is working before we leave to shoot
- Ensure we have permission to film if necessary
- Always film with at least one person
- Ensure we have permission of those we are filming

Audience Research (Survey Monkey)
We had to carry out an audience research by designing our own questionnaire on survey monkey. The survey basically included questions which explored the interest of different audiences in terms of the types of films they watch, if they like thrillers, their opinions on what makes a thriller, etc. The whole point of this research was to enable myself and my partner (michael matute) to understand and know peoples interest and come up with ideas for our thriller, which would interest our audience. We didn't just give out questionnaires but however, we also carried out other interviews by actually taking a video of the whole process.
Below are some of our videos;
Our audience research was mainly done on adults and this is basically they are the ones that are more likely to want to sit in an interview unlike the students, they prefered going online and post comments on the website 'www.wallwisher.com' which i set up, but for the audience feeback instead.

HitchCocks Maguffin
A Maguffin is a plot device that motivates the characters and advances the story, but has little other relevance to the story.
Hitchcock explained the term McGuffin in a 1939 lecture at a columbia university.
" We have a name in the studio, and we call it the ' Mc Guffin'. It is a mechanical element that usually crops up in any story. In crook stories, it is always the necklace and in spy stories, it is always the papers".
A mcGuffin was used in the beginning of the film ' psycho'.

The suspense "Thriller" HitchCocks Model
Suspense and Shock
The film Sabotage (1935) ny Alfred Hitchcock creates Suspense. There is a man who is a secret agent from a foreign country. He owns a cinema and his wife has a younger brother. The man plants a bomb in the film using the boy to transport the bomb.
Will the bomb go off?
Tension builds up as the background music sounds like the clock is ticking which then, suggests that times running out. The traffic red traffic light in the scene deliberately builds suspense as the audience will be terrified in terms of when or where the bomb would go off at and if the bomb would even reach its destination before it goes off.
Its also very terrifying due to the fact that we the audience know that the bomb is there but however, the innocent boy has no idea of the danger his into and the mission he has been sent on.
Another film which we looked at in class was Rope (1948)- This is an example of Suspense.
This tells the story of two young wealthy men who strangle and murder a friend of theirs just to see if they get away with it. They then invite other close friends (including the murdered persons parents) to their apartment for a dinner party , whilst hiding the body in the chess box in the living room, just to see if they get away with it. All this seems like a game to them and they don't even seem to be bothered about the fact that they have just murdered a human being for no apparent reason.
The whole film keeps building on suspense because we know the body is in the box but the characters are not aware of that. Then, there is this tension as well as eagerness between the audience in terms of when and who is going to find the body or if the murderers will go scott free and not get caught.
- Example; Imagine a scene in a film similar to this (classroom, students, and teachers). The camera reveals that there is a bomb under the table to the audience but we (the students, teacher) are unaware of it.
- Will we, the audience be scared?
- Will the bomb go off?
- This is suspense because the audience knows something the characters don't. (Dramatic irony)
- Example; Now imagine the same scene except that instead of the camera revealing the bomb under the table, without any warning, explodes and kills all present. This is Shock.
The film" Children of men" is also an example of shock.
The man goes into the coffee shop to see everyone depressed and calm as soon as the walks out of the shop, he walks down with his coffee and whilst hes standing, some sort of explosion blows off. It was shocking and unexpected and this makes it a very effective opening of a film.

Aspects of the thriller- Alfred Hitchcock
- "The only way to get rid of my fears is to make films about them"
- "There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it"
- " If it's a good movie, the sound could go off and the audience would still have a perfectly clear idea of what was going on"
- "Always make the audience suffer as much as possible"
- " I am a typed director. If i made cindarella, the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coack.
The suspence ' Thriller '- Hitchcock Model
- Under the strong influence of Alfred Hithcock, thrillers often begin with a crime and the accusations of an innocent bystander were the accused contacts the authorities, no doubt the case would be promptly solved , but instead, the poor bystander runs from the law thus further jeopardizing life and limb. - Rick Altman-
- Some examples includes films such as; "The 39 steps"- 1935 and" North by Northwest"- 1959
- " In the Thirty- nine steps, suspense films abandon both the thrills and suspense when the falsely accused character finally reaches safety". -Ricky Altman- (Again)
